生命好脆弱。

i held an old lady’s hand today. in the grand scheme of things, it’s such an insignificant act.

beautiful lyrics..

As part of the overseas exchange programme, we students were invited to a reception at the Norwegian Embassy.

The invitation stated smart causal, but hours before the meeting time sms were sent from the course reps that we were expected to be in shirt and pants.

Her excellency’s residence was magnificent. I was constantly wowed by how big the place was. It has two levels, a few parking slots and a swimming pool. We were served with choice of drinks from what seems like hired butlers from the time we entered the place; white wine, coke, sparkling water, orange etc.

the right section of the residence. does it give you the idea how spacious the place is?

The agenda of the reception was to have a informal briefing about the exchange plus buffet. As such we were rather clueless as to what to expect. So those who arrived early or on time were given the opportunity to mingle around and build or establish contacts and networks. Another impression i got was, the Norwegians are so tall. As we chatted around, this lady approached me and started a conversation. I didnt know who exactly she was but from her posture i gathered she was a rather important person. and i got really nervous as a result of that, trying to make sure there were as little “awkward silences” as possible. After a short while the actual programme and we were ushered towards the center of the residence while the Norwegian Ambassador gave a short informal speech. She was the lady i was having the conversation with. I was very surprised and hoped i didnt ruin her impression of sg students. haha

what followed after her speech was another speaker, iirc a Norwegian scholar here in sg to share his experiences and advise on what to expect in Norway. then another speaker, a senior who was awarded outstanding essay for her piece about her experience in Norway (i guess all of us will have to submit a report at the end of the exchange). She read an abstract of her report, quite interesting. and another speaker whom i do not remember the details as by this time we were standing around for maybe an hour. And then a number of our seniors presented a short video of life in Norway on the projector in the pic above. again, very interesting.

the poor piano was used as a table by many to put their empty glasses during the speeches

afterwards we were left to mingle again. there was actually no buffet but butlers going around with finger food. it was great photo taking session. i wanted to approach seniors to get their contacts, so that i can ask them questions afterwards. the guy i approached was such a wrong target. he looks friendly but i cant shake the feeling that he’s putting up fences to distance himself. i did get another senior’s contact near the end of the night.

a great preview of things to come!

aren’t we fortunate here in sg, with no earthquakes and cyclones?

Myanmar’s Leaders Play Politics With Disaster

Myanmar junta hands out aid boxes with generals’ names

I was watching the news the other night and saw the Myanmar leaders looking smart in their uniforms and handing out aids with the generals’ names. And felt this fuzzy feeling inside.

I’m sure it was important to look smart in front of the media, with the badges and the other nitty-grittys on their uniforms. I’m sure the ceremony was held only because they have already spent enough hours thinking how to help the survivors of the Cyclone Nargis all around the country. After all, there’s only 2 million cyclone victims facing disease and starvation, and 30,000 (and counting) that are still missing.

I’m sure they are doing their best.

highlights:

4:58 connecting the dots backwards, trusting what you do now will make sense in the future

8:21 in order to do great work, you’d need to do what you love

9:10 if you live each day as if it were your last, someday you’ll definitely be right

For everyone graduating or about to graduate, all the best for the next phase of your life~

Whatever will be, will be
The future’s not ours to see

The exams are over! I can slack without guilt, as compared to slacking with guilt.

It was my “easiest” exams yet, doing only a record low mods.

As usual. studying at the library and watching whose line go hand in hand

colin is so good at keeping a straight face and ryan’s laughter is contagious
