As the latest batch of graduates receive their degrees later this year, many will no doubt be thinking – “What’s next?”.
At a dialogue with the Manpower Minister, the concerns of young Singaporeans were evident.
One participant asked: “As a fresh grad, do I really have to accept a blue-collar job? And if so, will it affect my application for PMET position after the crisis?”
Mr Gan said: “In recruitment, we will always ask, why haven’t you been working for the last one year? If the answer is well, there are no jobs available, employers will not believe (this), because there are always jobs available.

The time to act is now
Letter from Ho Kong Loon
“Recently, a secondary school kid punched a bus driver over a littering incident in the bus.
The said culprit must be taken to task for (i) blatant littering by throwing a used plastic cup in the bus (ii) refusal to heed the good advice of the bus captain to pick up the said cup and disposing it properly (iii) defiance by throwing the cup onto the floor before alighting (iv) punching the driver on the nose subsequently (v) gesticulating aggressively at the said driver when the bus moved on
I am of the conviction the pupil must apologize to the bus driver personally, be made to clean buses and/or toilets at bus terminals as part of reformative training, defray the costs of the bus driver’s medical treatment; in addition to the punishment the school deems appropriate for such thuggish conduct.
The message must be clearly sent out to all school kids that the consequences for violence and other acts of defiance are dire and punitive, not just a gentle tap on the wrist, a soft lecture on anger management or counselling on how to manage stress issues etc.
The vocal minority among parents who articulate liberalism, transparency, accountability, individualism etc stultifies the teachers’ efforts to deal effectively with kids who break school rules with impunity.
The interest of the majority of school kids must prevail over the intransigence and unreasonable conduct of the minority. It is time more parents walk their talk, put their foot down, and say, “Enough is enough!”
…Let us all act in unison and consistently to stem this slide down the slippery slope to no return.”

Subject experienced dizzy spells from 11 April. Causes are suspected to be lack of sleep, internal heat and flu. Case noted for prevention in future. Subject advised to refrain from seating next to course mates with flu. Increased herbal tea intake has elevated the problem somewhat.
Subject deeply regrets not going for tutorials for one of his modules. It is expected to have profound effects on his results.
The mandatory exercise regime imposed on subject took out large amount of precious time, especially during this busy period. However subject seems to like the idea that the regime may burn off the excess calories accumulated all these years.
The state of emergency declared over Thailand affected subject greatly. The shootings contributed to a “disturbing dream”.
25 million views and counting!

Today’s Japanese listening test has destroyed my chance of scoring A for the module, and likely the only chance of getting any As in this sem.
happened to watch yu le bai fen bai the other day. xiao chu and xiao gui were interviewing a really pretty lady. the lady, eh, show caught my attention and i continued watching. took a while to realise that I am taken in by whatever the lady does, no matter how boring or uninteresting the interview was. just like how the 2 hosts were totally fawning over her. she just stands there, smile, do catwalk can already.
guys are so shallow.
(i am not saying the featured lady is a bimbo k.)
reminds me of a scene in 200 pounds beauty. an angry driver confronts the female lead and totally backs down after being mesmorised by her beauty.
btw 200 pounds beauty is a great movie. much recommended
