Apple Back to School Promo 2008

The Apple back to school promo i’ve been waiting for is finally here! From June 4 to Sept 16, buy a mac (except mac mini and the 17″ imac) using the Education Advantage and a 8gb ipod nano or ipod touch in the same receipt from the apple online store and get a rebate! $300 dollar rebate for 8gb ipod nano and $470 for ipod touch. In essence it’s getting an ipod free!

I was speculating whether the promo will happen again, as well as what the offer will be. It has been happening for the past 2 years in sg at least, around june – sept period. This year Japan and Australia had the promo, so chances are it’d happen again. MacRumors.com mentioned the promo will be out in US from June 3 and i waited again for it to happen for sg, and it did today!

It’s unexpected that apple is giving out free ipod touches. I thought this year the rebate value will be that of a 4gb ipod ($238 ) and my plan was top up the difference to get an ipod classic. ipod touch was of out reach as it was rather expensive, but now it’s free!

however..

wwdc is happening next week. it’s likely new products and technologies will be unveiled. iphone 2.0 software? new macbook/ macbook pros? redesigned metal casing for macbooks? with the upcoming montevina/centrino 2 (ddr3 ram support, Mobile Intel 4 Series Express chipset) release by intel (July 14?), apple is likely to refresh the macbooks/ pros. hence buying now might not be such a good idea, or wait and see till Sept. but i cant wait that long as i’d be flying in Aug! so will most likely get it next or next next week. excited!
